The Complete Guide to MEMORY MASTERY by Harry Lorayne - Book Reveiw

My decision to read the book 'The complete Guide to Memory Mastery by Harry Lorayne' is driven by his previous book Mind Power, As I have shared in my previous book review that I read the book Mind Power by Harry Lorayne with the perception that it is a book on memory improvement but ended up reading a book on overall personality development. This time I got it right, Memory Mastery is the book is completely focused on organising and developing the power of your mind.

In the first chapter itself the author started with some questions to test our general observation with the title called the 'How keen is your observation?' and most of the questions asked are related to everyday things what we see but ignore to observe. I couldn't answer many of them though I see those things everyday like... which light is on the top of the traffic light? Red or Green?, The number 6 on your wrist watch is Roman number VI or Arabic 6?... The reason he explains why we are unable to answer such a simple questions that we see them everyday but we hardly give a chance to get it into our memory, things that we see every need a passport to get into our memory that is 'observation'. Without a keen observation, nothing will get a space in your memory...

Taking about habit is memory he quoted words of Thomas De Quincey "I feel assured that there is no such thing as ultimate forgetting; traces once impressed upon the memory are indestructible." and Plato said this way to show the importance of memory, "All knowledge is but remembrance."

I haven't finished reading the book yet! so I will update my reveiw once I complete the reading..

Secrets of Mind Power by Harry Lorayne...Book Reveiw

One of my close relatives, who got some idea on my memory power, has recommended this book 'Secrets of Mind Power by Harry Lorayne' to me saying, 'this is a very good book on memory training and its worth giving a shot'. Before taking this book, going by its title, I thought probably it would give me some helpful tips on how to remember things and on that note I started reading... Harry Lorayne, the author himself is the reason why I thought this book will give me some good tips on how to remember things because he is a reputed memory training expert. I understood just by flipping through few starting pages of this book that my preconceived notion was wrong about the memory kind of stuff.

This is a book that deals with overall personality development and all most all the topics deals with organizing oneself for self advancement.

The strong point of this book is there are number of real life examples with small stories in each and every chapter where every reader can identify himself. Application of the techniques were explained for almost every scenario. For example, there are numerous examples on how one can think effectively towards solving ones own problems within certain constraints.

The chapter on Think Logically - and No One Can Stop You concept is my favorite, which explains how correct thinking will guide you to success path by breaking your own fixed beliefs on certain aspects. There is a detailed discussion on creative thinking, which covers some of the basic objectives like how one can focus on thoughts, basic excesses of thinking, and how a normal thinking can be converted into logical thinking which can be used as problem solving mechanism.

Overall, this is a very good book on organizing one self towards successful life..

30 second Speech by Bryan Dyson (CEO of Coca Cola)

VERY SHORT, MOST EFFECTIVE AND HOW TRUE...

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them - Work, Family, Health, Friends and Spirit and you're keeping all of these in the Air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back.

But the other four Balls - Family, Health, Friends and Spirit - are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for it."

WORK EFFICIENTLY DURING OFFICE HOURS AND LEAVE ON TIME. GIVE THE REQUIRED TIME TO YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS & HAVE PROPER REST. "VALUE HAS A VALUE ONLY IF ITS VALUE IS VALUED".

*I received this as forwarded mail from one of my friends and I like it and ready to care my glass balls first.

AASARA - Equal Rights and Dignity for Elders

January 18, 2010, Monday, I was on a weekly off and decided to go out with my friend (Lavanya) as we planned to watch a movie, but before that we had a task on schedule. To visit Aasara, it’s a social service organization working to help senior citizens.

We have no idea where is it and what it dose earlier on the day, but only got the information as it is an old age home. Some how we could figure out their office is near Liberty. We went to Liberty junction, stopped near Commissioner Office and enquired about Aasara. No one had any idea where it is. After some time enquiring on the road we some how figured it, this is at GHMC building. We went to GHMC near Tankbund, everything looked very busy over there with lot of security and lot of media vehicles. On enquiry some one told there is a corporaters meeting in GHMC. We managed to get into that building from 2nd gate and enquired security about Aasara, thankfully he said it’s hear and showed a way to it.

We’re here in GHMC building, found a help desk and enquired about the purpose; they in turn showed a way to it. At last we were in Aasara office, for our surprise we found it as a call center, helping senior citizens in their problems.

Mrinal Lankapalli, Project Coordinator of AASARA had welcomed us and asked us about our purpose of visit. Lavanya went on explaining about the issue.. How we can join an old lady, who is bedridden and not even in a position to do her own personal work. He enquired about the lady and gave information on this.

Reading a Book!

I have a habit of reading books since long, there are lot of books I listed down to read and started reading but due to my complacency in reading till the end has led me to leave many of them incomplete. Now time came to revisit all of those which are incomplete and I've taken up a completion project, rather I call it a mission.

The very first book I've read completely is "My Experiments with Truth" by M.K. Gandhi. It took me around 17 days to complete this one. For the sake of reading I've completed this book but most of the concepts are far from understanding, and that is the reason why I've spent another 15 days with the same book. The same book alone stood in my completed reading catalogue for very long until I started reading my next book...

"Wing of Fire" is my second book which is also an auto biography of a great scientist and visionary.

Both the books have some similarities in them, both are great people and have their vision clear in every step! Both are inspiring personalities for the generations.

Just after completing these two biographies I've started collecting some personality development books, thought essential to learn and grow in professional and personal life...

First in this row is "You can Win" by Shiv Khera. This book has created lasting impact on my way of looking at things and understanding them. This is the point where I've started to learn from each and every aspect of life, from a simple conversation to a good seminar.

This is the point where my quest for reading has got increased by double fold and there came an array of books into my collection, including..
Who Moved my Cheese
One Minute Manager
The Monk who Sold his Ferrari
Think and Grow Rich

Some of the best books in my collection..

Great lines in "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari"

I'm reading a book titled 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' by Robin Sharma. In a charpter called 'The Ancient Art of Self Leadership' I found these wonderful words about Self Awareness, the very quality that separtes humans from animals..

"There is nothing wrong with making mistakes. Mistakes are part of life and essential for growth. Its like that saying, 'Happiness comes through good judgment, good judgment comes through experience, and experience comes through bad judgment.' But there is something very wrong with making the same mistakes over and over again, day in and day out. This shows a complete lack of self-awareness, the very quality that separates humans from animal."

I'll soon write a complete review of this book..

My Dissertation Topic..The Shift Towards Wealth Management in Banking in India

Pavan Kumar Danda

The Shift towards Wealth Management in Banking in India
-- A Study on Selected Private sector commercial banks

The emergence of the “private banking” & “wealth management” segments in banking, which took seed in the late 90s, has since attained huge proportions and holds a lot of promise for banks and financial institutions today. A progression from the aggressive retail banking focus of most large banks across the world, wealth management is a reflection of the emerging trend of an altogether new set of clients, a subset of “individual” or “retail” clients, but with the potential to amass significantly higher levels of wealth. Naturally, such clientele require a higher level of personalization, both in terms of relationship management as well as product offering. To the banks, it means a big opportunity in terms of quantum of assets managed as well as ongoing fee income potential.

Wealth management services are provided by banks, professional trust companies, and brokerages. The “high perceived value” of wealth management has more attraction than the “low cost transaction” for the retail market. Wealth management means taking care of the needs of clients, their families and their businesses as part of a long-term, consultative relationship. It’s best conceptualized as a platform where a number of different sets of services and products are provided. This brings unique challenges for the service provider and opens up immense opportunities for banks to offer solutions which can cater to the entire life cycle events of wealth management offerings. All in all, this is just the beginning of the new opportunity for the private commercial banks in India.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

“The shift towards wealth management in banking in India --A Study on selected private sector commercial banks in India” is taken up with the following specific objectives:
1. To find out how far the private sector banks sensed the opportunity in wealth management in India.
2. To know different banks strategies in shifting towards the wealth management.
3. To analyze the wealth management practices in different banks.
4. To find out the best way of capitalizing on wealth management in banking which is most appropriate for the Indian customer and market.
